Business TipsThe Truth About Some Medical Tourism Companies.
Guadalajara Living vs Monterrey Have Medical Tourism companies lost their credibility? Many Americans and Canadians have began to question the credibility of a few European Medical Tourism Companies representing Medical specialist in countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. The doubt in these patients arose after many could be patients of these countries did what they were suppose to do and that is to do their own research of the medical facilities and Surgeons being promoted on websites dedicated to Medical Tourism. The scandal begins with 2 Turkish websites that promote Medical Surgeons and their facilities world wide. The problem here is that the websites are owned by the same person. The two websites although very appealing to the eye and informative are nothing more than a disgusting way to scam people out of their money. Both websites promote the same surgeons and yet, with a different approach. The first one begins by telling you that they are dedicated to you, the patient and they take the stress out of you trying to research a surgeon, since they have already done this for you and that it is a free service to you. They take care of everything and make the appointment for you. They claim to be making this a stress free relaxing surgery with the “perk” of a vacation. All of the research has been done for you, they tell you what hotel to stay in, they give you the price and they take a 15% deposit fee for your surgery. Do you know where that 15% goes? It goes into the pocket of the owner of the website for the supposed research they did and to pay the worthless clueless patient facilitator on the phone that is doing nothing more than following a script provided to her by the “ Marketing” director of the company. The tradition of real Medical Tourism companies is that one must research it’s surgeons, facilities, cities we represent and to make sure that we are referring patients to a legitimate Surgeon that we ourselves would go to. Every detail is as important as any, including the hotel or recovery home that these patients will be staying in. The second website represents the same surgeons only in this case the Surgeon is charged a monthly fee instead of a commission. That’s right no one verifies the Surgeons credentials no one visits the county nor are the facilities ever taken into consideration. The surgeon is simply asked to e-mail pictures of the facility and to e-mail a CV and then to pay a monthly fee. The real shock came when this patient, we will call him Bob, came across the testimonials on one of the websites. There was a negative and harsh one about the surgeons he was considering going to which is why he was doing all of this research. He says he felt a little at ease at first. He appreciated the honesty that the company was showing by publishing a testimonial and of course not all surgeries are perfect and one runs a risk anywhere in the world with any procedure. What really sparked his plug was 2 weeks later when he still considered going to these surgeons and wanted to show his girlfriend the negative testimonial. It had been replaced with a positive testimonial from a different patient. Bob couldn’t let it go. He continued to research the Internet for a good and highly recommended surgeon to do his surgery. This is how I met him. After speaking to him over the phone and after hearing his story, I almost fell out of my seat. I was employed by that very company a few years back and left for Ethical reasons and their strong Anti-American views. I could not believe that they were still representing the very same surgeons that I complained so much about. I have many provable complaints about those surgeons and as much as I would tell the owner of the company about the complaints, his only concern was to continue to receive the commissions and monthly fees. The owner and so called patient facilitators of this company have no Medical back ground no customer service skills and don’t know half of the Surgeons they represent. These type of companies are giving Us, the real Medical facilitators a bad reputation. Not all Medical Tourism companies are the same. Some are there for you, the patient and really have the your best interest at heart. I am not here to promote my company so I won’t, I am simply here to share this story since it is not the first and I fear not the last. Medical Tourism is a wonderful industry. We just need to weed out the Marketers that think that because they are Internet savvy and can pay a good computer tech to make their website look like they know what they are talking about. The truth is that it takes a lot more than that to be a true medical facilitator and sadly that company from Turkey is not a good one. I know from first hand experience that they not only lie to the very hands that feed them, they also could care less about the patients. They only care about the money and nothing else. The owner is a ruthless man who knowingly continues to refer his patients to Surgeons that have proven to be incompetent.
